In the summer of 2026, the Fitton Center will host The Soul of Black Folks: 250 Years of Creativity, Leadership and Innovation through the Handwork 2026 national initiative by Craft in America! Curated by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi, this brand-new collection features 50 stunning story quilts created by the Women of Color Quilters Network.

Reception: Join us for an afternoon filled with food, drink, joy, and plenty of soul.
Poetry Slam: In response to the work featured within the collection, enjoy powerful storytelling performances from local artists, presented via theKettering Foundation.
Story Quilt Community Conversation and Art-Making Workshop: Hosted by Learning Through Art, Inc., this session explores linking the exhibition to the personal histories of our participants, "The Voice of the Soul". Families can share their own experiences and create a personalized, framed "Story Quilt" to take home.
